A community where Korean artists in America and the professionals who understand them gather.

Open gatherings, talks, and long conversations in New York. Artists of every discipline, from musicians and painters to dancers, photographers, fashion designers and entertainers, share the table with professionals who understand their world: attorneys, tax professionals, investors and business advisors. Come to meet, mingle, connect, learn and inspire one another, and when it fits, work together directly.

Like jogakbo (조각보), the Korean patchwork: separate pieces become one cloth once they share the same ground.

Why we gather

Talent was never the problem. What breaks is the infrastructure around the art.

Contracts signed in a hurry. Visas renewed at the last minute. Sudden success with no structure behind it. We have watched gifted people lose years to problems a good attorney or accountant could have solved in an afternoon.

A note from the founder

I practice law, but music has always been more than a hobby. I still lead a men's choir. I love stories from art history, beautiful design and clothes, and the places where things are filmed. Art, to me, is wide: music, fine art, dance, performance, broadcasting and entertainment.

I also have something close to an obsession with connection. When I meet a good person, I want to introduce them to another good person. For a long time I didn't know why. Now I know it is what I love and do best.

Years ago I watched a documentary about a violinist who had once stood at the very top. Years later, he was playing in a small restaurant. There is nothing wrong with a small restaurant. What stayed with me was how he got there: the film told how he had been exploited by his management, lost the fortune he had built, and finally found peace in that small room. That scene never left me.

I am not a man of great wealth. What I have is the grit of someone who started from the ground, a heart for the arts, and remarkable people around me. I believe in the power of connecting good people.

A different kind of support

The support I care about first is structure.

Florence did not bloom by accident. Da Vinci and Michelangelo could give themselves to their art because someone stood behind them. Talent was always there. What differed was the ground it stood on.

Today that ground is legal guidance, visas, contracts, finances, taxes and structure. And structure is built by people: professionals who carry a quiet passion for the arts, gathered around the same table.

Like water that fills a cup and overflows on its own, what each professional knows reaches each artist in the shape of their own situation.

Water that flows one way goes still.

Help that only moves in one direction does not last. It has to circle back.

So it moves both ways.

Artists find help that truly fits. Professionals find meaning in their work. Everyone comes to give, not only to take. When that circle turns, people gather on their own.
